Sad apple hype
Not hype, just facts, Apple dominates as a photography mobile tool, we all wish the other manufacturers could compete both technically and from a marketing standpoint, but Apple does a great job at selling phones and they have some incredible apps to enhance the camera function on their device. App developers are going to go where the market is, that’s economics.
This makes no sense. When talking about companies, Nokia produces much more cameras than Apple. And when talking about models, Nikon D90 is now bigger. (look at the Flickr stats)
Nokia doesn’t have a single camera that ranks in the top 5 mobile phone uploaders to flickr, Apple controls a dominant position by a large margin of the top 3 spots, HTC is well below and when the iphone5 comes out apple will probably have the top 4 spots. The d90 is only beating the iPhone because the iPhone 4 was released, just look at the graph, iphone 3G and iphone 4 are way more dominant than the d90 and its predecessor. This infographic is about the iPhone, not a specific variant of it. Maybe others like Nokia should take a hint and make 1 great phone instead of 100 mediocre ones.
45 million photos taken with an iPhone have been uploaded to flickr. Not exactly scientific proof that its the most popular camera, but it certainly is convenient to take photos with an iPhone. I think some of the photo apps make sharing photos more fun – that’s why its the most popular on flickr.
Over 100M iphones have been sold, what camera has that volume? Nikon sold $5B across all their SLRs and digicams in 2010, Apple sold 14.1 million iPhones and $8.82 billion in iphones in the fourth quarter alone. The numbers speak for themselves the iPhone is the dominant camera on the market outselling entire portfolios of the largest camera manufacturers on the planet.
Is it just me or did anyone else trying to view the full size info graphic on an iPad run into a problem where the iPad only loads a 400×1683 image?
Me too, now i wonder why?
Damn this is just what I’ve been looking for! WOW! Kudos to you for the awesome infographic. I’ll have to share it for sure! I’ve been working on some articles like this and this will totally help me continue my explorations.
amazing
I love the graphic… one observation…
do you think it’s more appropriate for the dollar value section to use a less-than sign connecting the iPhone and the box of single-feature electronics, instead of just a right-facing arrow (which is what I assume it was intended to be).
Good camera app choices. Except I recommend Photosynth for panoramic photo-stitching over 360 Panorama. Try it out!
Great infographic, but I have one question: What do the values represent on the y-axis of the first line chart? Is it investment dollars, number of units sold, etc?
