Geekaphone just finished our green study of the iPhone and wrapped it all up in a tasty infographic.
Apple pulls in close to 50% of total global cellphone profits by selling only 4% of all cellphones, with that kind of profit and over 100 million iPhones sold Apple is a legitimate gorilla. So just how green is the gorilla’s smartphone?

Kudos for sharing your sources, this makes it a lot easier to gauge the value (and added value) of the information in the beautifully styled infographic.
I do wonder about mixing information about the Apple brand with facts about “cell phones”. For the careless reader this may lead to attributing an unfair amount of polution or other social, economic or environmental damage to Apple.
I’m no fan of the brand (more of an Android fan really) but I do feel people deserve fair information and treatment.
This shows how a seemingly innocent product leaves a trail of bad stats behind it. I didn’t realize what a Bad Apple it was!
I think we are being a little unfair here. This is only analizing the iPhone, we don’t really know what the status is on other phones… This graphic alone looks not good but it would be unfair to judge out of perspective
If you had a Tweet button i ‘ll used it as fast as possible !
This is a great idea, but the infographic is not very informative. Are 45 kg of CO2 a lot? What would that be for competitor phones, or older dumb phones? What does 18% less emissions and 22% more emissions mean? Are those comparing the same numbers? What is the phone on the right–it doesn’t look like an iPhone 3G. The facts mix some cellphone data and some iphone data, which is a bit confusing.
” What does 18% less emissions and 22% more emissions mean? ” Me also feel confused about this.
According to the fisrt two sources provided by the Editor, total greenhouse gas emissions for iPhone 4 is 45 kg while iPhone 3G 55 kg. This may be the source data of the emission comparison. @WB
